In the early hours of August 5th 2019, a boy named Jacob (not his real name) was found alone in a pedicab, a local means of transport in the Philippines. His father had been detained on drug charges, leaving Jacob with no one to care for him.
After some time in temporary custodial care, Jacob transferred to Christian Compassion Ministries in January 2020 and arrived with a bright smile. He was playful, full of life, curious and eager to learn. With the help of his house mothers he soon learned to write his name, recognize letters and count numbers. Life in the CCM Homes helped Jacob to grow in many ways. He especially loved the outdoor games like basketball. He was known for his caring disposition and warm hugs. He loved art and music too!
By the age of 8, Jacob had managed to meet the kindergarten requirements and was ready to start Grade 1. He was becoming more responsible in the Homes – helping with chores and learning to care for himself and becoming more independent. He was always keen to join in daily devotions and Sunday School.
Jacob’s journey was not without challenges. A year after his arrival at the CCM Homes, he received the heartbreaking news that his father had passed away. The news was delivered sensitively to him. Despite the sadness he felt, Jacob continued to find strength and support from his caregivers and friends at the Homes.
Jacob’s life took another turn when his legal mother revealed that Jacob was not her biological child and decided to relinquish her parental rights, due to her inability to support him. The decision, though difficult, opened the door for Jacob to find a permanent and loving family through adoption.
Throughout his stay at CCM, Jacob has shown remarkable growth. He is continuing to do well with his schooling and home life. His enthusiasm for learning and kind nature has made him a bright and promising child. He has strong bonds with his house mothers and peers.
Now he is 13 years old and he stands strong and full of life and potential. He dreams of becoming a soldier someday. CCM has provided a nurturing environment for Jacob, but what he really needs is a forever home to continue his journey.
We pray that, through regular exposure to God’s Word, he will not only grow in his knowledge, but also come to a clear understanding of sin, grace, repentance and saving faith.
Jacob’s story is one of hope and resilience. With the right support, he has the potential to achieve great things. We deeply hope that the authorities will realise his need for a permanent family and grant him with a certificate that states he is available for adoption. Please pray that he will receive this soon and that CCM can find for him a loving home where he can thrive and reach his full potential. Above all, pray that he will come to know Jesus as His Lord and Saviour.
“My life here in CCM is good because I can do many things that make me happy. I am thankful that there are people who take care of me. I get to join fun events like birthday celebrations and parties, and those moments make me smile a lot.
I am also happy that I can go to school every day. After school, I attend tutorial classes, and then I get to play. I also join basketball and volleyball training, which makes me stronger and more confident. I am starting to learn basic keyboard typing.
Sometimes, I miss riding jeepneys in Parañaque, and I miss the person who took care of me before. I also miss going to different places and exploring new things.
Even though I miss those things, I am very thankful that CCM takes good care of me. I feel safe and supported here. I am hopeful that one day soon, I will have a family that I can truly call my own.”
